Daphne

App Name: DaphnePrice/Platform: Free (iPhone)

Review Version: 1.1

Developer Websitehttp://daphne.life

Features: Daphne is a dead-simple task manger. It has no settings, and for each event you only enter what you need to be reminded to do and when. And that’s the beauty of it!

To add a task, just press the plus sign in the left hand corner, type in what the reminder is and when you want to be reminded! If you don’t explicitly state the date, or it doesn’t pick up on it, you will be prompted to enter the “when”. And that’s it!

It important to note that it has to be in a sentence like format and be coherent… For example, typing in “Watch the Phillies on Tuesday at 7pm, produces a event titled “Watch the Phillies” with the time of the event being the upcoming Tuesday at 7pm. But if you type in “Watch the Phillies on 5.1 at 7pm” you will receive an error message. You would have to say May 1 instead of the calendar date. The app also works if you ask it to do a task in x amount of minutes (i.e. 25 minutes from now) or a certain duration away (i.e. 2 weeks from now).

Once task are created, you can go back and edit/add there title and/or date and time. To mark a task as complete you can swipe to the left from the main screen or to delete swipe from the right.

Summary: Daphne is a super easy to use task manger that lets you type in your reminder and its takes care of the rest.

Pro:

  • Easy to read font with clutter free screen
  • No settings or options to play with
  • Just type in your reminder and your good to go

Con:

  • Have to play around with the app to see what phrasing it likes and dislikes
  • No way to sync between devices
  • Currently no native iPad client

How I use it: I use Daphne when I just want to write down a quick reminder. I really like how easy it is to use, and it’s interface is very readable. I personally use it in tandem with dictation and I prefer that method over Siri for creating task via speech input. (However, Siri for reminders is much more convenient.) Overall, Daphne is a nice change from using the usual feature rich, but complex task manger.
